Cie La Bande Passante – Ville de Papier
Exhibition
In a small exhibition, the French theatre group La Bande Passante presents a paper model of Erlangen, which was developed in workshops together with Erlangen citizens, as well as films of other paper cities that have already been created.
La Bande Passante is concerned with the exploration of objects as witnesses of human history. They often work with paper worlds – since 2014 they have been designing models of cities, including Brussels and Erlangen’s twin city Rennes, in which the individual history and architecture as well as the lives of the inhabitants are taken up.
In February 2025, Benoît Faivre and Tommy Laszlo travelled to Erlangen to collect material for a paper city of Erlangen: They scanned and reproduced old postcards in the city archives, using their motifs to design a model of the city and perform it at the festival. In doing so, they are also looking at the major changes that will characterise the cityscape in the future. The participants in the workshops have also worked with reproductions of postcards, which La Bande Passante will use to create a second model of the city – this will be on display in the exhibition.
During the festival, there will be another three-hour workshop on Thursday 29 May, also at the City Museum, which will focus on the town twinning of Erlangen and Rennes. Anyone interested can register for this at: figurentheaterfestival@stadt.erlangen.de
The exact times will be announced shortly.
Visitors who have purchased a ticket for the performance ‘Ville de Papier [Paper City] Erlangen + Rennes’ in the city archives will receive free admission to the small exhibition in the arcade during the festival on 30 and 31 May and on 1 June. From 3 June and for all other visitors who do not have a ticket for the performance, the normal admission prices for the City Museum apply.
