Akhe – Objekte und Bilder
Exhibition
Maxim Isaev and Pavel Semchenko, the founders of the Russian engineering theatre Akhe, are not only active as stage designers and performers, but have also been working as visual artists for many years. As part of the figuren.theater.festival, they will show a selection of current works as well as props and designs for costumes and stage sets from the 35-year history of the performance group in the foyer of the Redoutensaal. Engineering theatre Akhe is known for its unique synthesis of set design, performance and mechanics. Their productions explore the materiality of the image and the interaction of body, space and objects. The exhibition in Erlangen gives visitors the opportunity to peer into the inner workings of this theatrical organism and see details that are normally hidden from the audience.
Akhe’s performances always strike a balance between architectural precision and anarchic freedom, between the rigorous engineering of form and the spontaneity of living action. The props and sets on display in the exhibition carry the energy of the performances in which they were used, and the costume and set designs provide an insight into the creation of these complex stage constructions.
Some of the designs on display will be available for purchase. This is a unique opportunity for collectors, artists and lovers of contemporary theatre art to acquire genuine artefacts that reflect the artistic thinking of Akhe Engineering Theatre!
Open during performances in the Redoutensaal.
On 24 May at 18:00, the festival also presents the performance ‘White Cabin’ in the Redoutensaal.
