Antigone
In times of the global rise of populist tendencies, the powerful play “Antigone” has lost none of its gripping, moving drama. A newly crowned king issues an order. And his niece ignores it. Antigone buries her brother, who has died in the war, even though King Creon, her uncle, has forbidden this under penalty of death. He considers the fallen man a traitor to his country and justifies his mercilessness with reasons of state. Antigone, on the other hand, believes that her actions are legitimised by ethical values and moral commandments. The play brings together all the essential conflicts of human existence: the confrontation between old and young, man and woman, society and the individual, the living and the dead, man and the gods. Bühne Cipolla stages the fate of Antigone with live music to show some of the central conflicts of human existence.
