Frederick
Based on the children’s book by Leo Lionni
Instead of working hard day and night like the rest of the mice to hoard food for the winter, Frederick collects sunbeams, colours, sounds and words. These are his supplies for dull and gloomy days. As the long winter starts to weigh heavily on the mice’s spirit, Frederick magically manages to surprise them in his very own way, warming their hearts and souls. One of the most famous stories since there have been little dreamers, reinterpreted for puppet theatre.
Inga Schmidt and Stefan Spitzer – the Artisanen – are a duo of freelance puppeteers from Berlin who have been working together since their studies at the “Ernst Busch” Academy of Dramatic Arts. Since then, they have performed a variety of productions at theatres and festivals in Germany and abroad. Based on classical puppet theatre, they use varieties of object and material theatre, as well as elements from acting and performance, visual arts and music, to develop their very own theatre forms. In 2023, their production of the classic children’s book “The Animals of Farthing Wood” was part of the 23rd international figuren.theater.festival.
