Zauberzeichen
A performance around the alphabet for the curious
What does an ‘A’ have to say and how does a ‘U’ move? What happens when the two meet? Do they become a painful ‘AU’? Or do they frighten their surroundings as a cheeky ‘UA!’?
In this alphabet theatre, the alphabet becomes the protagonist: the 26 letters made of papier-mâché each appear in their own way and are examined in terms of how they move and sound. Still unbound by the books of the world, free and spontaneous, they are astonishingly eloquent without using many words. It is a playful way of getting to know and rediscovering these little characters, who rejoice and get angry, join forces or reject each other, grow together beyond themselves and make sense – or nonsense – in the process.
Behind theatre katinkaspringinsfeld is the freelance puppeteer Kathrin Blüchert. She developed this play together with Tristan Vogt, who also directed it. As a member of the Waidspeicher Theatre ensemble, she has already been a guest at the international figuren.theatre.festival several times, for example with “Als mein Vater ein Busch wurde und ich meinen Namen verlor”. In 2023, she appeared on stage together with Tristan Vogt in the musical picture story “Wenn Ferdinand nachts schlafen geht”.
“For a young audience, who have their first contact with the alphabet, the desire to explore the letters themselves is awakened – these magical signs that can form words and tell stories. And those who have already internalised letters as a means to an end leave the theatre with a fresh perspective.” (double, No. 51, 1/2025)
