Theater Kuckucksheim
Waldstock
1969, the world is characterised by conservatism, war, rearmament and deep social divides. A young band from Franconia aims to organise a festival in their neighbourhood, more precisely in the tranquil village of “Waldstock”, in order to save their endangered youth club, as the centre’s funding is to be cut. Together, committed and with united forces, they are fighting to preserve this special place.
In the new play “Waldstock” by Theater Kuckucksheim, which traditionally presents a premiere at the figuren.theater.festival, the ambitious band members are confronted with a variety of big and small questions: What can you do as an individual when war is raging and society is sliding ever further to the right? How do you face these social challenges, especially as a musician? And how do you organise an open-air festival to stand up for the things that have meaning to each one of us. An exhilarating, turbulent and liberating story with lots of live music, not just for hippies and old 68s, whose themes appear very contemporary at times.
Theater Kuckucksheim was founded in 1990 by Stefan Kügel in Heppstädt near Erlangen. Characteristic of the theatre’s productions, which tour theatres and festivals in Germany and abroad, is the combination of drama, puppetry, music and singing.
Note: This production uses stage fog, complete darkness and loud music.
