Eva Mario Hasler (DE)
Big Show – A Great Show
Eva Mario Hasler’s stage persona feels a burning urgency to create something grand and cranks up every dial of pathos to do so: Fire show, action film, drag, church service. With unwavering conviction that every lighter is a flamethrower, every slice of toast a sacred communion, and every ladies’ bicycle a potential monster truck, Hasler conjures moments of awe and sublimity using the simplest of means. Eva Mario Hasler draws inspiration from Susan Sontag’s essay “Notes on camp” – a foundational text in queer cultural discourse – in which views the entire world as an aesthetic phenomenon. Additional influences include Michael Jackson, Scooter, the operas of Richard Wagner and the productions of Philippe Quesne.
”In my work, bodies are the common denominator that bundles and concentrates various impulses from the performing and visual arts as well as music; bodies breathe, sweat, move, transfer, fragment. Bodies are political, vulnerable, approachable, immersive.“ Eva Mario Hasler first studied scenic arts in Hildesheim, then puppetry at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts. “Big Show” is her graduation project at the university. Eva Mario Hasler also performs as a DJ.
The performance will be followed by an artist talk.
Presentation: Dr. Hans-Friedrich Bormann – Institut für Theater- und Medienwissenschaft, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg
Please note: Stage fog is used during the performance.
