Sotterraneo (IT)

Inspired by Walter Benjamin, Yuval Noah Harari, and other thinkers, Sotteraneo cleverly assembles anecdotes from different eras and places around the world in their performance. A narrative of progress and change emerges before the viewer’s eyes. A clever, captivating reflection on the power of storytelling.

The theatre company Sotterraneo started out as a research collective in Florence in 2005. With its avant-pop approach, experimentation with different formats, and the articulation of contradictions, the collective seeks to narrate our times and strike a balance between collective imagination and unconventional thinking. The group was honored with the 2022 UBU Award for “Angel of History” as best Italian theatre performance.
