Warm wie die Kohle
Germany is importing more and more coal from Colombia. Colombian coal comes from the “Cerrejón” mine, the largest coal mine in Latin America and the fourth largest in the world. The mine is located in the territories of the indigenous Wayúus communities. From their perspective, the mountain is a living being and access to the mountains is not only a right of humans, but also of the spirits and gods who live there. What exactly is being mined and transported to Germany? Are these Latin American gods and spirits now on the move on German soil? “Warm as Coal” is an attempt to bring these spirits to life here in Erlangen.
The KMZ collective – Laia RiCa, Antonio Cerezo, Yahima Piedra Córdova and Daniela del Pomar – have been working together since 2021. Many of them are from Latin America and all live in Berlin. At the 22nd international figuren.theater.festival 2021, they presented a tryout of “Kaffee mit Zucker?” in Erlangen, which the audience was able to experience via livestream due to the coronavirus restrictions. While the two materials coffee and sugar in their different states of aggregation dominated the stage here, it was potatoes and plaster in the production “Fünf Exponate”, which was shown in Erlangen in 2023. In their material performances, the group uses biographical material and historical sources, video fragments and live music to create visually powerful, dense and sensual productions.
Unfortunately, the venue is not suitable for wheelchair users as it is only accessible via stairs.
