Cie La Bande Passante (FR)

The French theatre group La Bande Passante explores objects as witnesses to human history. They often work with paper worlds – since 2014 they have been designing city models made of paper, including Brussels and Erlangen’s twin city Rennes, in which the individual history and architecture as well as the inhabitants of the cities are taken up. In February 2025, Benoît Faivre and Tommy Laszlo travelled to Erlangen to collect material for a paper city of Erlangen: They scanned and reproduced old postcards in the city archives, using their motifs to design a model of the city, which they will present at the festival – together with the model of Erlangen’s twin city Rennes. They will also look at the major changes that will characterise the cityscape in the future.

During their stay in Erlangen, workshops were also held with citizens to work on a second paper model of Erlangen. This model and short films of some existing paper cities will be on display in a small exhibition at the Erlangen City Museum from 30 May to 14 September 2025.

In addition, on Thursday, 29 May, there will be another three-hour workshop, also at the City Museum, which will focus on the town twinning between Erlangen and Rennes. Anyone interested can register for this at: figurentheaterfestival@stadt.erlangen.de
