“’Maybe I’m made of lime’, the little marionette introduces herself. It is blind and naked. ‘I have no knees, only legs, but I can wiggle with them’. She says and swings off. More marionettes rustle in their bags in the stage sky. Each figure is special in its movements – which is made possible by the material and puppet construction. They dance a twitching ceremony that becomes an enchanting mesmerisation.” (fidena.de)
Inspired by the writings of contemporary thinkers such as Vinciane Despret, Donna Haraway, Anna Tsing and Tim Ingold, the play questions our relationship to the world of the living and the non-living, the place of humans in the organic world. Inspired by Donna Haraway’s theory of string figures, Élise Vigneron from Théâtre de l’Entrouvert, Erlangen-born puppeteer, director and professor of puppet theatre Julika Mayer and the ensemble of the Puppentheater Magdeburg ask, in a collective attempt at rapprochement, what it means to be part of something. They explore being connected, the longing for it and the endeavour to stay connected. Tree trunks, branches, bark, grass, moss, a host of puppets and the five performers bring memories of nature to life.
Using historical puppets from the Magdeburg Puppet Theatre, the five performers invite you to a great celebration of the living and the dead. An ode to nature and life was created in an open rehearsal process between Germany and France, in which everyone was able to participate on an equal footing.
